4th of July Run
The United States began celebrating Independence Day on July 4th in 1777, one year after the Continental Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. This historic document, primarily authored by Thomas Jefferson, declared the thirteen American colonies’ independence from British rule.
The choice of July 4th as the date for the celebration stems from the adoption of the Declaration, marking the birth of the United States as an independent nation. Although the legal separation from Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted for independence, July 4th was chosen because that was the day the final wording of the Declaration was approved.
Americans celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks, parades, barbecues, concerts, picnics and family gatherings.
This event is a perfect opportunity to celebrate if you’re in the US or an American living overseas. Perhaps you have friends or family living over the pond and want to do something.
