THE BENEFITS OF ADULTS STAYING ACTIVE

As we get older, our bodies change. Our metabolism slows down as we age which leads to weight gain, fatigue or lack of energy, physical stiffness and general weakness. Bones lose density and can result in diagnosis of osteoporosis. The good news is we have a way to combat and slow down this from happening.

An active life is vital to stay fit and healthy. Vigorous activities, like running not only helps people with changing your mood and helps with mental health issues, but it can also improve body strength and balance. Running can also prevent or delay diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, or osteoporosis. There is also research to support running may improve cognitive function (how the way the brain works).

How to Send Your Race Evidence

Take a screenshot of your app. We accept Strava, Garmin, FitBit, Map My Run, and RunKeeper just to name a few. You can also take a picture of your exercise watch or display screen on a treadmill.

Fill out the fields on our submission form and upload your evidence.

After your evidence has been sent, you should receive an on-screen confirmation

As well as providing an incentive to stay fit and healthy, our virtual races can be a fantastic way to spread awareness and raise money for a worthy charity.

Charities tend to struggle, especially when something out of the ordinary happens like COVID. The work they do is in many cases, paramount in helping people manage with life-changing conditions or helping researching cures for diseases.  This is why we encourage people to pick a charity which is close to their heart and support them by fundraising.

It’s easy to get started and signing up for one of our virtual challenges is the first step. Find a race here

Once you have entered a race, then why not create a fundraising page with JustGiving or GoFundMe.

When you create your fundraising page, it’s a good idea to make it personal. Explain the reason you are raising money for your charity, give people some background about what your chosen charity does and tell people about what you are aiming to accomplish.

The next step would be to share. Social media platforms are still an excellent way to tell others about your fundraising. And don’t forget to ask friends, family and work colleagues to sponsor you.

Don’t forget to keep everybody up-to-date with your progress. Posting screenshots of your activities is a great way to let people know how you’re getting on. Posting a photo of your medal at the end of your challenge is also a great way to encourage others to either support you by donating or gives them the incentive to start their own fundraising.

As an OAP that still likes running, I have found this virtual challenge was just the motivation I needed to keep running, during lockdown especially. Even now it keeps me running. Being on a pension means money is tight, so being able to do virtual runs is fantastic, It's cheaper and no need to travel with the extra expense of getting there. Thank you so much
